TO THE
NORSE WOMEN'S FIBER HALL

I sent out an e-mail last fall asking if there were any kinswomen who knitted, crocheted, did tapestry, etc. I was surprised at the large response I received. Not only did they enjoy working with fiber, but some felt the same as I did. We needed somewhere where we could share. A place where others of like-mind understood the need for our symbols being displayed in our crafts - and most importantly, understood the magickal aspects of blending this altogether. So not only was a group mailing list born, but now this webpage. This site is our Gallery. Here you will find handmade fiber items that work with our religious beliefs.

In our Fiber Hall, we are working on many projects together. Well, as together as one can online. We have Work-Alongs. How this works is, one woman agrees to host, or be the "project mom". She has knowledge of the said fiber craft. She will design, or come up with a project sheet for us all to follow.

There is the Viking Knit A Long (VKAL) and the Beginners Knit A Long (BKAL).These two projects will take about a year to complete. Each month we knit a square. When we are finished, we will put the squares together to make lovely blankets. If you are signed up for both the VKAL and the BKAL, this means you have two squares that must be knitted each month.

The VKAL started at the first of the year and is lead by Alissa. The VKAL is a more advance knitting. We are following Lavold's book "Viking Knitting". Follow the link to view our pictures, and to learn more: Viking Knit A Long

The BKAL is intended to teach knitting. Sonja is the project mom for this, and has a pattern for us to knit up every month. This is also great for those who want to brush up on their knitting skill. This project started in Jan. also. To see and learn more, follow the link: Beginner's Knit A Long

The Swedish Weave A Long (SWAL) will not take as long. Diana is the project mom. This started at the end of Feb. Please click here to view our pillows that we made for the frontroom. This is a Thorr's Hammer design encased in the ing rune: Swedish Weave A Long

We also chat about what we have planned to make in the future, and what we would like to learn. Here are a few of the other projects listed for the year: Naalbinding, Viking Tablet Weaving, Tapestry, Tunisian Crochet, Filet Crochet, Weaving, Rugmaking and the list goes on. This doesn't include the other things that we are all working on privately!

Norse Women's Fiber Hall Contest

That was in 2004. Here we are at the end of 2007, and the FiberHall is still going strong. We have spent years sharing and learning from each other. We have exchanged so much since the Fiber Hall first opened.

This year we will be working on showing off our skills in a Norse Women's Fiber Hall Hat contest. Kris, Lexie,Chris and I worked out theTheme and the Guidelines.
